Tamiya is proud to bring another iconic racing machine to its lineup – the legendary 1978 Ford Zakspeed Capri Turbo, now available on the ever-popular TT-02 chassis.

Built by the renowned West German Zakspeed racing team for the 1978 DRM (German Racing Championship), the Capri Turbo was a purpose-built racing weapon. Its ultra-low, wide body was meticulously refined through extensive wind tunnel testing, creating an aggressive aerodynamic profile designed to dominate the competition.

Beneath the striking bodywork lay an engineering masterpiece. Weighing in at just 790 kg and powered by a potent 1,427cc inline-four DOHC turbocharged engine producing an impressive 375 horsepower, the Capri Turbo delivered breathtaking performance and quickly established itself as one of the most formidable cars on the grid.

Its breakthrough moment came in the 11th round of the 1978 DRM season at Nürburgring, where it claimed its first major victory. The following year, the Capri Turbo continued its winning form with a strong second-place finish in the season opener before securing another victory in round two.

Now, this motorsport icon lives on in Tamiya form, combining legendary racing heritage, unmistakable styling, and the proven performance of the TT-02 chassis.

About the model

• This is a 1/10 scale R/C model assembly kit. Length: 488mm, width: 205mm, height: 124mm. Wheelbase: 251mm. 
• The kit features an existing body and new stickers.
• The distinctive form of the 1978 Ford Zakspeed Capri Turbo is captured in style by a lightweight, rigid 1.0mm thick polycarbonate body.
• The efficient shaft-driven 4WD TT-02 chassis features superior adaptability and stability.
• Front 2-piece mesh wheels from Item 50548 (silver color) are paired with racing slick tires.
• Rear 2-piece wide mesh wheels from Item 50549 (silver color) are paired with wide racing slick tires from Item 50547.
• Comes with Tamiya Torque-Tuned Motor and Tamiya/Hobbywing ESC.
• Gold color wheel caps are used at front and rear.
• Comes with stickers and masking stickers for use in the paint job.

The extremely low and wide form is recreated by a polycarbonate body, with stickers to add markings.	Light cases are separately molded polycarbonate parts.	Separate parts are used for the upper rear sections of the front fenders.
Stickers are used for the mesh sections at the front of the rear air intakes.	Side mirrors are composed of two parts, with a sticker for the mirror surface.	Stickers recreate logos, rear combination lamps and more.
The rear spoiler and wing are screwed onto one another, and attached to the body with double-sided tape and screws.	Mesh design wheels are a 2-piece recreation, and paired with slick tires.	The rear wheels are also a 2-piece design. Wheels and tires are 6mm wider at the back.

Gearbox cover can be removed simply with the loosening of screws on the frame.	Molded 4-bevel differential gears ensure that the model offers smooth drive and cornering.	Resin ball links in the steering linkage joints make for smooth, comfortable motion.
Wheel hubs are designed to look like brake discs for a realistic and stylish appearance.	4-wheel double wishbone suspension utilizes friction dampers for a controllable ride.	Motor cover includes removable cooling duct (not attached in above image).
